I found Zentangle® while watching a DIY video online. I loved the sound of the word, so I naturally had to find out more. Then when I saw the visuals, I was completely hooked. The simplicity of the black and white drawings was stunning, and I started reading everything I could about it. I bought a small (3×5) journal and started practicing. I thought I was doing pretty well, until I met a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) and saw her amazing work. I took a few classes with her and realized how important the human element is to this art form. My drawing was improving, was more purposeful, was cleaner. I was actually creating art – the only subject in school that kept me off the Honor Roll (way back when).
Friends and family realized how serious and passionate I was about this when I attended CZT 5 class in Boston in February 2011, since I’m really a shorts and flip flops, summer-weather person. Since then, I have taught numerous classes across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex from small private home classes, large classrooms at the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington, Texas, and just about everything in between.
In December of 2014, my husband and I had the opportunity to move back to my hometown of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. I now live across the road from my mother and the house where I grew up, and it’s easier to be available for her when needed (and vice versa). I’m anxious to share the beauty of Zentangle with Northeast Texas!
