New Pattern – Moonburst

My second attempt at new patterns – this came from a decoration in the hotel where we stay when we visit our son in college.  I took a picture the very first time we stayed there over a year ago and have just now played with it.  This is just a base – there are so many variations that could be done.  I hope it’s different enough from others to be considered a new one!

And here are the step outs for it – I’m still honing my skills in that department!

Like I said, so many variations can be done!

Classes at The Crafty Scrapper!

I am loving The Crafty Scrapper!  First of all, I’ve been a scrapbooker for way too many years to count now, and I haven’t actually created a scrapbook page in about two and a half years.  When I walked in, I swear my heart started racing.  It was so good to be in a scrapbook store again!  It really made me want to

  1. Buy everything in the store (which I didn’t) and
  2. Start creating those pages again.

But when I really thought about it, Zentangle is where I am supposed to be for now.  Some day when I have more time (ha) and more room (haha), I will scrapbook again (hahaha).  In the meantime, I will use Zentangle as my creative outlet, and teach others the beauty and simplicity of it.

The Crafty Scrapper has wonderful customers who are anxious to learn, and I am anxious to share.  On April 12, they are having a birthday celebration bash and I will be there for that, and then the class is the next Saturday, April 19.

You can call the store at 972-923-3151 to register for class (see description below).  The full flyer is shown under Classes on my home page.

If you mention this blogpost at the class, I’ll give you an extra tile to take home for practice!

Tangle On!

Zentangle 101 – Trisha Rice
Saturday – Apr 19, 2014   10:30-12:30   $35 This class is the beginning of your Zentangle journey. Carefully chosen tangles will build the skills you need for every step you take. Have you already tried your hand at this? Patterns (tangles) in books and online are great resources, but they don’t offer the tools to tap into your  own creative expressions using the purposeful, mindful process of Zentangle. You will come away from this classwith two official Zentangle tiles and nine (yes, 9) patterns. Also, know that  you are learning from Trishia Rice, a Certified Zentangle Teacher trained by the founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Trishia could not (and still cannot) draw realistic images, but she  has discovered it is not necessary for becoming an artist. Come and enjoy a relaxing and  creative two-hour session – you won’t regret it! ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED

Yesterday I got to attend a class at Ten Seconds Studio and made this awesome journal – completely!  We even did the binding (which I absolutely loved) and added great hardware!

And to practice, we made a cute little notebook and we even made the coil for it.  Such a productive day!

And last but not least, I got to see and create with good friends!

Tangled Leather Art Journal

So it’s been a month since I started this, and I guess time flies when you’re having fun.  I’ve been practicing and catching up on all the new tangles, and I think I have a new one I created.

But the most fun I’ve had recently was creating a Leather Journal from an online class and kit from my friends at Ten Seconds Studio.  They normally use metal as their art form, but have just discovered that their tools for working on metal also work on their “Cattle-ist Leather.”  I happen to have a few of the metal tools because I love playing with the metal also, so when I saw the promo for the journal, my tangling mind went wild.  First, here is a picture of the finished journal.

And here are closeups of the tangles on the covers.  I had to experiment to see which tangles translate to the leather.  Cadent and Shattuck were the easiest to do, and my version of drupe worked pretty well.  H2, Hollibaugh and Flux were a little trickier because of the lines that are so close together.

I have more leather and the other color of stains to work with.  I can’t wait!
